This project underlines the power of photography to isolate moments and thereby alter their perceived meaning. What in motion would be seen as graceful or powerful, in stillness can become vulnerable or even tragic.
Dancers, with their ability to convey a range of emotions through movement, become perfect subjects for this exploration of context. In performance, each gesture is part of a larger narrative, understood and appreciated in the flow of the dance. However, when these moments are frozen in time and removed from their narrative, the meaning becomes ambiguous, open to interpretation based on the viewer’s perceptions and preconceived notions.
